How many times have you had the most amazing idea, but as fast as the idea popped into your mind, you talked yourself out of it with a million (probably quite valid) excuses and reasons as to why it’s not possible to act on it.
You believe you don’t have the resources to make it happen. Maybe you feel you don’t know the right people or have the right network. Or you don’t have the capital needed, or the education/experience, or the time, or the confidence, or the…
If you are in this predicament right now you need to understand it’s not the lack of resources that is stopping you.
It’s the lack of resourcefulness!
I know this can be hard to accept, but if you don’t get really honest with yourself and clear on what you want then you won’t achieve what you are dreaming of.
Within every obstacle in your way, there is a solution if you focus your mind on finding it!
“Every problem has in it the seeds of its own solution.
– Norman Vincent Peale
If you don’t have any problems, you don’t get any seeds.”
Before continuing, I’m going to ask you how badly you want to pursue your dream/goal/idea?
If you want it with every cell in your body then read on, but if you are not really serious about it then perhaps your time would be better spent reading or doing something else. If you simply don’t want it bad enough yet then you won’t be willing to put in the effort required to bring it into reality.
Okay, you are still here! Great!!
Resourcefulness is all about getting creative, thinking differently, finding solutions, staying persistent, convincing others to support you in your quest and, most importantly, taking action.
One thing a lot of people are never aware of is how much of a resource the people around you truly are. It is said that you as an individual are the sum of the five people you spend the most time with! Because of this, you need to be careful that the people you spend the most time with are the people you need in your life.
Perhaps the company you keep, be they family, friends, work associates, are leaning towards a more negative attitude? They might be happy in their misery or content with their lot in life and lack the driving ambition you have.
You may already be aware that you need to connect with more positive and like minded people so you can grow and level up. However the fact that we are currently in a global pandemic and being advised to ‘stay home’ it is not possible for you to go out and network.
So, how on earth are you supposed to rise above the negativity and surround yourself with the people who you want to become like?
One option is that you could follow inspirational accounts on social media of people you admire and aspire to. Immersing yourself in their virtual company could give you the same effect as having them as friends or business associates that inspire you to grow. You could even reach out to them (in a non spammy way!) and start building a real connection.
Be sure that following their accounts is serving you and motivating you to up your game, not making you jealous or feeling low in any way. It is important to check in with yourself regularly on how you are feeling when absorbing their content or daily life so it is helping you become the best version of you.
Another option could be joining a like-minded community for support. There are lots of Facebook groups that you could benefit from being a part of and also help others when appropriate.

When you really want something, you can move mountains to get it!
Some of the most successful people started with nothing but an idea! No resources, no luck, no money, no clue as to how they would get to where they wanted to be. But they did have imagination!
They also had a desire that they would get there and they stayed persistent! They took the steps necessary in the direction they wanted to go, not knowing the way but as they progressed, the way unfolded.
This isn’t to say they never faced adversity on their journey, of course they did! That’s part of the process, but they carried on, sought good advice, got creative and learned from every experience both good and bad.
Whenever you feel stuck or overwhelmed with a problem that arises, it will serve you well to research others who faced similar challenges.
Not only could this console you that you are not alone with this problem but learning how they overcame their problem could very well give you inspiration on how to solve yours!
